We made it to the top of the Mt. Misen, on Miyajima island across from Hiroshima, where a legendary Japanese monk, Kobo Daishe, of long, long ago found enlightenment. We have found our own unique versions of the same.
The trip down was a challenge, taking nearly 2 hours and an untold number of concrete steps. Our knees and backs paid a price, but it was the price that had to be paid.
We love the Japanese country, and it’s people. They are troubled, like the rest of humanity, but they respect each other and honor peace. Yet, they are like ducks swimming in a lake, looking peaceful from above, while paddling furiously below the surface (thanks, Yuri, for that great description),
I am being changed daily by our immersion in their culture. I thank my higher power that I can never be the same as I was before. A journey can be said to be only the distance covered between two stations, yet a pilgrimage is the movement from an open heart and mind to further enlightenment. We are on such a pilgrimage.
Akiko has become our most honored friend, guide, and spiritual companion. Close quarters with each other has only enhanced mutual respect and love
Heading north to Kanazawaw in the morning.
